The Prescott Community Freenet Association's (PCFA's) funds are essentially exhausted. If
the PCFA.ORG server is to continue growing to serve the needs of the community, PCFA needs
your support.
In October 1997, when PCFA learned that it would no longer be providing the services that
allowed users to dial-in to the Internet, the organization stopped the solicitation of
contributions. Since that time, PCFA has operated with funds already raised, knowing that
fund-raising operations eventually would have to start again. That time has arrived.
For over two years, the PCFA.ORG server has been needing an upgrade. Thanks to the
generosity of Brett Wish,
as of late August 2002, we now have a Dell 6100 server with four
Pentium Pro 200 CPUs each with 512kb cache, one Gigabyte of RAM memory, and four 8-Gigabyte
hard disk drives configured in RAID-5 for 16 Gigabytes of storage plus a hot spare in case
one of the other three drives fails. This computer also has redundant 700-watt power
supplies and is built "like a tank" -- it's designed to stay up and running. There's also
a 12-Gigabyte digital tape drive.
Since this was a used computer, it needs a few upgrades:
- Dell 06485 Hard Drive Trays
- With 51163 Electronics
- 2 added drives
- 1 for "hot swap" spare
- 3@$65.00
| $ 195.00 |
- Seagate ST19171WC Hard Disk Drives
- 2 added drives
