
Welcome from the Lions
The Prescott Lions Club would like to extend an invitation
for you to come to one of the Club's meetings. The Lions Club meets on the
first and third Thursdays of each month at the Prescott Housing Authority
Office behind the old Nevada County Hospital. The Prescott Lions Club
is a non-profit civic organization.
The main goal of Lions Clubs Internatioal is to help raise money for the
treatment and prevention of blindness. The Club also help famlies who can't
afford to get glasses for their children. Applications for glasses may be
obtained by contacting a Lions Club member.
Locally in 1996, the Prescott Lions Club has:
- Contributed $540 to Prescott Community Freenet Association for the
continuing work on Wolf Den.
- Contributed $600 toward computer software at the alternative
learning environment at Prescott High School.
- Contributed $200 to Nevada Schools for Presidental Classroom trip
to Washington D.C.
- Contributed $500 to Mid-South Sight.
- Contributed $1,100 to Lions World Services for the Blind, Little Rock.
Several Nevada County residents are served there!
- Donated $270 to purchase championship playoff rings at Prescott
High School.
- Purchased six pair of eyeglasses for needy area youths.
- Donated $250 to Leadership Level of the local troop of
Boy Scouts of America.
- Sponsored a local Little League Baseball Team for $225 and also
funded trips to Minor League professional games.
- Donated to Shots for Tots.
- Purchased $1000 worth of chairs for the Nevada County Fair Association
for use with stage events.
- Finished paying for the new Christmas
decorations at the Nevada County Courthouse.
- $1000 scholarship to a Prescott High School senior.
- Contributed $100 to Campus Crusade for Christ so a local youth
could be a missionary.
- $100 to Leader Dogs for the Blind.
- Contributed $250 to Prescott Shuttle for the trip to the Space Center.
- Donated to 4-H Clubs.
- Donated to Project Literacy.
- Donated to Prescott Parks and Recreation.
- Make up and deliver Chistmas baskets, including special diabetic
baskets, to residents at the local nursing homes.
- Baskets for the needy at Christmas including food, toys for younger
children and warm clothing for older children.
- Contributed to Red Ribbon Week at Prescott Elementary School,
purchased banners and bookmarks, and judged the poster contest.
- Continued support of the McGruff Crime Dog project at Prescott
Elementary School.
The Prescott Lions Club has many fund-raisers throughout the year.
Some of them include concession sales at the Chicken and Egg Festival
and the County Fair, the annual Circus, the yearly Lions Club Auction, and
the sale brooms, mops and lightbulbs.
Funds raised by these and other donations go mainly back to the
community in the form of a yearly scholorship, glasses, and many others.
The Lions Club wants to be an active part of the community. If you think
